Do you remember me posting about this lovely little chair I had as a child that needed upholstering?
Well the lovely Kristy from over on 4theloveofwood has kindly been putting some ideas together for me. This is a big challenge for me as I have never done any upholstering before & I want to get it right as this cute little chair has been in my family for a very long time.
One suggestion she had for me was to go for an organic large bold coloured print to jazz up the simple lines. I love the look of these chairs & kirsty was right in saying she had a feeling I would love the yellow! (Oh Kirsty you have me worked out), although I do LOVE it in the red as well. These printed fabrics on a white painted base would be gorgeous although now I am slightly torn since she threw another idea at me that really caught my eye....
....... I also LOVE the idea of the black painted wood with the black & white printed fabric. Oh no..HELP ME people what do you think?
Kirsty also suggested to fill in and upholster the side panels of the chair to give it a whole new look completely. Im toying with this idea if I go with the bold coloured fabrics. hmmmm whats a girl to do? What do you all think I would love your feed back on this.
Well Kirsty had lots of ideas for me & if you want to see the full post or you would like some advice on some furniture makeovers you want to try out yourself blog hop over now to http://4theloveofwood.blogspot.com/ where you will find helpful tips & ideas on furniture revival. There are some amazing makeovers that kirsty has done herself for you to see
Take a peek at this parlour chair Kirsty upholstered (clever girl isnt she!)... theres much much more to see over on her blog. Thanks Kirsty for all your help xx
Can wait to see what you decide with all those good ideas.
ReplyDeleteI really like the black and white option. I think it's closest to the original chair and would be the easiest to pull off. It'll look sharp!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm here for Sarah to confuse, and befuddle you!! *wink* But really I'm glad to offer my opinion when asked and if it ends up helping even better. I'll be watching for the transformation. I'm honestly rooting for something in YELLOW. How fun would that be.
ReplyDeleteKristy @ 4 the love of WOOD
It is like a total transformation. I would love the yellow and white because of where I would put the chair, however they are all fab!!

Oooooh, I LOVE the images you've posted. Upholstery is a craft that I haven't ever tried. It must be amazing to be able to buy a piece and completely transform it. I can't wait to see what you do with your chair!

OOh, I can't wait to see what you decide. I love the yellow and white. Where are you going to put it? That would have a bearing in my opinion :).
ReplyDeleteI vote for yellow and white! It would transform that lovely chair into something spectacular!
ReplyDeleteI adore that gorgeous black and white floral fabric! I can't wait to see how it turns out. Have a lovely weekend, Kellie xx
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feed back ladies Im still totally torn!! Im thinking maybe the black & white but my son has decided to steal back the chair now he has seen the ideas & likes the yellow print idea....watch this space
ReplyDeleteThat chair has beautiful, clean lines and will be gorgeous whatever direction you take {lucky girl}. My first question would be where is this going? The fabric and look of the chair will be, in part, determined by the function of the chair in the space it's intended. If you aren't sure yet then that might be why it's hard to decided on how to apholster yet. I love the idea of a bold beautiful print to help soften some of the hard lines of the chair itself. I'm a big fan of the juxtaposition of things like that. But I can also see this chair looking PHENOMENAL with a beautiful solid fabric {say navy} and a crisp white for the arms/legs. I guess my best advice would be to do what you love and what will work best {form and function} in the space you intend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!!
I'm still learning upholstry, but this chair is a lot like a chair I did for my first project and it wasn't too bad...you might get hooked after you complete it... I like the black and white option too... very cool.
ReplyDeleteI will look forward to seeing what you do with this chair. Fabric is so fun to find but so hard to pick. Good luck. I'm your newest follower.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little chair, and how special! I'm voting for the red fabric!
