I do love browsing blogland for ideas & great makeovers as you already know & this fireplace makeover I found over on
http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/ caught my eye this week. I sell tiles in my showroom & I am a bit on the obsessive side (sad but true). I love how she has used these lovely modern mosiac tiles to update this fireplace but yet still keeping a classic feel. Teamed with the slate floor its a timeless & beautiful finish. Used for a huge array of different things mosiacs have become ever popular used in both bathrooms and kitchens but they are in general more expensive than average tiles. So if your on a budget making a feature with the mosaics like this fireplace instead of decking out a full bathroom is a great way of introducing them into your home without breaking the bank.
Mosiac tiles give a very rustic feel as a splash back in a country style kitchen. So if tiling the whole area is just too expensive how about a feature behind the cooker or sink. These mosiacs below certainly add some charm & character.
In a bathroom you can try mixing mosiacs with other tiles to keep the budget affordable. Use mosiacs in the shower cubical only or as a splashback at the basin & team it with plain tiles or even waterproof panels.
Below shows a very indulgent use of mosiacs by Designer Jay Jeffers with glass tiles" from Waterworks covering the entire floor and the wall behind a pair of Waterworks sinks. A bit over the top for most of our budgets but still a clever design.
