Jan Cavelle Furniture
Yesterday morning the new Jan Cavelle furniture brochure landed on my desk. I just had to share with you a few sneaky pictures as the range is absolutely stunning.
I have a lot of admiration for Jan Cavelle she is a real womens inspiration. Jan Cavelle started her furniture company back in the early 1990's after becoming a broke single mum. Jan started out by running her business from home and after a few years started to make ends meet and slowly expand. But then her furniture supplier anounced he was shutting down, to many this would have been the end of the road. But for Jan this was the start of a new faze to her business and she brought the company out. It has now grown from strength to strenght as a very succesfull business and Jan herself has gone on to win many awards. She really is an inspiration!
Warm walnut is kitchen of the month

A beach fronted kitchen designed by Robert Bakes and Cecil Baker and partners in Sag Harbour, New York is featured in House Beautiful as kitchen of the month. There is a strong masculine feel to the whole design with the smooth walnut cabinets teamed with stainless steel appliances and the concrete look walls. I love walnut wood its by far my favourite with its soft chocolate tones. Walnut can be very dark and over powering as a kitchen cabinet and only really works well in a kitchen like this that has a lot of natural light coming in to it. This beach fronted house has large glass windows along one side of it so has lots of natural light shining in and so it works well.

The plastered walls imitating concrete is very clever and effective. Plastering walls is becoming very popular once again and with clever effects like this you can see why. Im not normally a fan of mixing woods in a kitchen but the Elm flooring works really well against the walnut cabinets. Working as a kitchen designer for nearly 7 years I have to say walnut is not very often a clients choice but as a wood its top of my favourites.

Making it lovely with pink
Nicole Balch from Making it lovely shared her beautiful living room on her blog after Pantone announced Honeysuckle Pink to be the colour for 2011. Take a look, its gorgeous isnt it? She bases the room on honeysuckle pink, coral rose, russett, beeswax and silver peony. They are all beautiful colours that compliment each other perfectly. I know a few friends of mine who would love this look. I think its stunning although I am not sure Neil would be such a fan!! A girl can dream though cant she? What do you think is it lovely in pink or way too girly?
Ecclectic living
Do you love this ecclectic living room or do you find it all a bit too busy?
I'm not sure about this whole look myself, although there is some great pieces in this room I'm still undecided on the finished look. I really like the chunky mirror and I think the chandeleir is gorgeous. There is an array of different colours in this room and I am guesing the pillows were the starting point here with its black, pink, cream and green being picked up around the rest of the room. Im not sure about the cream curtains, they some how dont feel quite right to me. What do you think?
white wednesday
Dream Bathroom Spa - How stunning is this bathroom featured on House Beautiful by designer David Jimenez.
It has a classic spa feel with elegant touches of gold and brown. I love the brick effect white tiles they are a big seller for me at the moment for both bathrooms and kitchens. The countertops and floor tiles are Calcuter gold marble. Its a timeless look that can be copied easily. This to me is the perfect bathroom, elegant and relaxing.

Go gloss for an ultra modern look
A sense of space and serenity is found with white high gloss laminate which creates a fresh interior that is rich in contemporary style. The clean lines are a high favourite with kitchen buyers who want a modern and individual look with a focus on symmetry. Stainless steel or black appliances look fantastic in contrast but stainless steel by far is still the most preferred material for sinks especially in a contemporary kitchen finish like high gloss. Add splashes of colour with accessories to liven things up or go for wood block worktops for a more understated look to add some warmth.
The pops of red in the occasional accessorie add some drama to this otherwise monochrome look

White brick effect wall tiles continue the streamlined overall look. Simple and contemporary.
These retro red enamel steel kitchen utensil holder and salt and pepper pots from Amazon add subtle pops of colour

I adore the multi coloured swivel chair and the beautiful mix of scatter cushions, and the glass chandeliers are so elegant.
